Hey Look, That Way to the World’s Largest Ball of String!
(Or, Why I Keep Getting Side-Tracked)
Being side-tracked is one of my favorite pastimes.
I usually start with a clear goal—really, I do—but somewhere along the way, something shiny, strange, or just plain interesting catches my eye. Suddenly I’m a few miles off the trail, marveling at the world’s largest ball of string. (Metaphorically. Mostly.)
This habit shows up in how these essays get written too.
They begin with one focused question… and then veer into five more I also want to explore. I’ll be halfway through outlining a clear argument when a new angle grabs my attention, and the essay splits like a river.
That’s why I’ve committed to keeping each essay within its chapter concise and targeted—letting other essays answer the follow-up questions. Every path will get its time, but not all at once. (You’re welcome.)
So if you’ve been waiting for new content to drop—thank you. I’ve been rewriting, realigning, and yes, occasionally admiring metaphorical roadside attractions.
I’m this close to launching the next pieces—thumb and forefinger an inch apart.
Thanks for your patience. It’s coming.
