Creation
« Back to Glossary Index
Definition:
Creation refers to the act by which God brought the entire universe into existence out of nothing (ex nihilo). It encompasses all matter, time, energy, space, and life—designed by God with purpose, order, and beauty.
Biblical Basis:
Genesis 1:1 — “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Psalm 19:1 — “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
Colossians 1:16 — “For by him all things were created… all things were created through him and for him.”
Theological Significance:
Creation is not accidental or eternal—it is the intentional work of God. This truth is foundational for understanding human purpose, morality, and destiny. Everything in the created order reflects the wisdom and power of its Maker. Denying creation removes the foundation for accountability, meaning, and value.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
Our journey starts with where we came from. Understanding creation helps us see that we are not random or alone—we are made with intention, designed for relationship, and accountable to our Creator. It also sets the stage for seeing God’s fingerprints throughout the natural world and Scripture.
