Calling
Calling refers to God’s initiative in drawing a person to Himself and directing their life according to His purpose. It includes both the call to salvation and the ongoing call to live in obedience and faith. Calling originates with God, not human desire or effort.
Biblical Basis:
Romans 8:30 — “And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.”
1 Corinthians 1:9; 2 Timothy 1:9; Ephesians 4:1
Theological Significance:
Calling highlights God’s sovereignty in salvation and discipleship. Scripture consistently presents God as the One who calls, while humans respond. This guards against the idea that spiritual life begins with human initiative or self-determination.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
DiscipleLife emphasizes that we do not begin the journey by choosing God, but by recognizing that He has already been at work drawing us. Understanding calling reshapes how we view faith, obedience, and growth. It reminds us that discipleship is a response to God’s work, not a project we manage.
