Context
Context refers to the surrounding information that gives a statement its intended meaning. In Scripture, context includes literary, historical, and theological setting. Removing a statement from its context often leads to misunderstanding or misuse.
Biblical Basis:
2 Timothy 2:15 — “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Nehemiah 8:8; Luke 24:27; 2 Peter 3:16
Theological Significance:
Scripture is internally consistent, but individual verses can be distorted when isolated. Context guards against reading personal ideas into the text rather than drawing meaning out of it. Many doctrinal errors persist because context is ignored.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
DiscipleLife trains readers to slow down and read carefully rather than collect isolated verses. We treat context as essential for understanding truth faithfully. Learning to honor context strengthens discernment and unity.
