Authority (of Scripture)
The authority of Scripture refers to the Bible as the final and highest standard for truth, belief, and practice. Because Scripture is breathed out by God, it carries His authority rather than human opinion, tradition, or personal preference.
Biblical Basis:
2 Timothy 3:16 — “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
Matthew 5:18; John 17:17; 2 Peter 1:20–21
Theological Significance:
Without a clear view of Scripture’s authority, interpretation becomes subjective and unstable. If Scripture can be overridden by feelings, culture, or experience, it no longer functions as revelation. Biblical authority anchors truth outside ourselves, where it cannot be reshaped at will.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
DiscipleLife assumes from the outset that Scripture is the governing authority for the entire journey. Every question, tool, and conclusion is measured against God’s revealed Word. This protects us from drifting into self-made spirituality and keeps the journey grounded in truth.
