Conscience
Conscience is the inner awareness of moral right and wrong placed within humanity by God. It bears witness to God’s moral law, even in those who do not know Him. Because of sin, conscience can be weakened, misinformed, or ignored.
Biblical Basis:
Romans 2:15 — “They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness…”
1 Timothy 1:5,19; Hebrews 9:14; 1 Peter 3:16
Theological Significance:
Conscience reflects humanity’s creation in the image of God, yet it is not an infallible guide. Scripture teaches that conscience must be informed and corrected by God’s Word. A clear conscience flows from truth, not personal sincerity alone.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
DiscipleLife treats conscience as an important signal, but not the authority. We learn to listen to conscience while allowing Scripture to shape and refine it. This protects us from confusing personal feelings with divine truth.
