Field Notes

« Back to Glossary Index

Definition:

Field Notes are reflective observations recorded along the journey of discipleship. They capture questions, insights, tensions, and discoveries encountered while engaging Scripture, truth, and lived experience. Field Notes are not polished conclusions, but honest snapshots taken in motion.

Biblical Basis:

Psalm 119:59 — “When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies.”

Habakkuk 2:2; Proverbs 4:26; Luke 2:19

Theological Significance:

Scripture affirms the value of remembering, reflecting, and marking what God is teaching over time. Growth often unfolds gradually, and reflection helps reveal patterns God is forming. Field Notes honor the process of discipleship without confusing process with doctrine.

How We Use It in DiscipleLife:

DiscipleLife uses Field Notes as a space for honest reflection without forcing resolution. They allow room for wrestling, learning, and noticing God’s guidance along the way. Field Notes remind us that faith is lived forward, not merely summarized after the fact.
