Humility

« Back to Glossary Index

Definition:

Humility is the posture of recognizing our dependence on God and our limited understanding apart from Him. It is not self-denial for its own sake, but an honest acknowledgment of who God is and who we are in relation to Him. True humility opens the heart to truth and transformation.

Biblical Basis:

James 4:6 — “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Philippians 2:3–8; Micah 6:8; 1 Peter 5:5–6

Theological Significance:

Scripture presents humility as essential for receiving grace and wisdom. Pride resists correction, while humility welcomes God’s work. Without humility, truth becomes something we try to control rather than something we submit to.

How We Use It in DiscipleLife:

DiscipleLife begins with humility because growth is impossible without it. We approach Scripture, truth, and discipleship not as experts, but as learners. Humility keeps the journey relational rather than performative.
