Orientation

« Back to Glossary Index

Definition:

Orientation refers to understanding where we are before determining where we are going. Spiritually, orientation involves honest self-assessment and alignment with truth at the beginning of the journey. Without proper orientation, progress can move in the wrong direction.

Biblical Basis:

Lamentations 3:40 — “Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!”

2 Corinthians 13:5; Proverbs 16:2; Psalm 26:2

Theological Significance:

Scripture emphasizes examination and repentance before instruction and action. Orientation determines direction, and direction determines outcome. Beginning rightly matters more than moving quickly.

How We Use It in DiscipleLife:

DiscipleLife begins with orientation rather than answers. We pause to assess assumptions, posture, and readiness before advancing. This prevents the journey from being driven by confusion or false confidence.
