Presupposition
A presupposition is a belief or assumption that is held prior to conscious reasoning. Presuppositions shape how evidence is interpreted and what conclusions seem reasonable. Every worldview rests on presuppositions, whether acknowledged or not.
Biblical Basis:
Colossians 2:3 — “In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Romans 1:21–22; Proverbs 3:5–6; 2 Corinthians 10:5
Theological Significance:
Scripture teaches that no one approaches truth neutrally. Presuppositions either align with God’s revelation or distort it. Recognizing our presuppositions is essential for genuine repentance of the mind and growth in truth.
How We Use It in DiscipleLife:
DiscipleLife places strong emphasis on identifying presuppositions early in the journey. Many disagreements are not about conclusions, but about starting points. Examining presuppositions helps us realign our thinking with reality as God defines it.
