Submission

« Back to Glossary Index

Definition:

Submission is the willing alignment of our will under God’s authority and design. It is not passive resignation or loss of identity, but an active trust that God’s way is good and true. Biblical submission flows from faith and love, not fear or coercion.

Biblical Basis:

James 4:7 — “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Ephesians 5:21; Romans 12:1; 1 Peter 5:5–6

Theological Significance:

Scripture presents submission as the proper response of a created being to the Creator. Because sin is fundamentally rebellion, submission represents restored order and relationship with God. True submission is made possible by grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit, not human strength.

How We Use It in DiscipleLife:

DiscipleLife treats submission as essential to transformation and discipleship. Growth does not occur by asserting control, but by yielding to God’s truth and leading. Submission keeps the journey relational rather than performance-driven.
